I agree, SVN merging isn’t very good, although it seems to be getting a bit better. The above list was however intended to present SVN’s strengths over Visual Source Safe, not to punt SVN as the best solution. Many of the distributed VCSes are far better than it, but not particularly suitable to migrating from VSS as the workflow is so different.

As the title says, SVN Branch Merging Sucks, and breaks most builds. Simply ask your peers, most developers end up spending more time merging and to and fixing the trunk than writing code.

I’d forgotten there wasn’t a way to get newlines into string literals in a sane way. On the bright side… um… hmm. There *must* be a bright side somewhere. If I think of one, I’ll point it out.
